EXCLUSIVE: Maggie Grace (Taken franchise) and Steve Howey (Off Campus) are set to topline Fiona, a new horror film from Capstone Studios (Obsession, Don’t Move), based on the cult podcast Knifepoint Horror.
Adapted from an original story by Knifepoint‘s writer, creator, and narrator Soren Narnia, Fiona follows a lonely, divorced doctor who falls in love with a mysterious woman in rural America, only to discover she is channeling the raw forces of Mother Nature toward an apocalyptic purpose. He must then decide whether to save the woman he loves or the world she intends to destroy.
“There’s something in Fiona that speaks to a collective exhaustion with each other, with the state of the world, with the damage humanity continues to inflict on itself and the environment. The film channels that anxiety into horror that feels primal, emotional, and strangely cathartic,” said Kearie Peak, who’s producing through her Peak Pictures alongside Capstone.
Directing from a script by Justin Yoffe and Evan Hart, Nicholas McCarthy (The Prodigy) told us, “As a lifelong fan of horror movies, I’ve always wanted to make a movie about a witch — and with Fiona, I finally found the perfect project. I love Soren Narnia’s Knifepoint Horror universe and can’t wait to bring it to life.”
Production on Fiona kicks off in Toronto on May 28. Cast by Seth Yanklewitz, CSA, and Ben Pollack, the film will release in theaters via Aura Entertainment before streaming on MGM+.
Since launching in 2010, Narnia’s anthology podcast Knifepoint Horror has amassed more than 10 million downloads across platforms. Fiona marks the second feature to come out of this universe, following Lockbox, based on the fan-favorite episode “The Lockbox,” which is slated for release with Aura Entertainment and MGM+ this summer.
Best known for her roles in the Taken franchise, Lost and Fear the Walking Dead, Maggie Grace has recently been seen starring in Suits LA on NBC. She is represented by Gersh.
Steve Howey plays antagonist Phil Graham in Amazon’s hit romantic drama Off Campus, based on the books by Elle Kennedy. He also stars opposite Kaitlyn Olson in High Potential for ABC/Hulu and is repped by IAG Talent.
Best known for supernatural horror films The Prodigy and The Pact, Nicholas McCarthy is repped by Writ Large and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
Recent films from Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Pictures include Curry Barker’s horror phenomenon Obsession, which has grossed over $84M worldwide on a budget of less than a million, as well as the Dave Bautista actioner Trap House and Netflix horror thriller Don’t Move.
