This December, Yokohama is preparing to once again light up the holiday season with the Illumination Spectacle in Yokohama (yorunoyo 2025). From December 4 to December 30, 2025, this breathtaking event will transform the city into a vibrant spectacle of lights and music, promising visitors an unforgettable holiday experience. Now in its sixth year, the event continues to captivate both locals and international visitors, offering a larger-than-ever celebration that combines artistry, sustainability, and the beauty of Yokohama’s urban landscape.

    An Expanded Experience for 2025

Yorunoyo 2025 is set to be the grandest illumination event to date, with a record-breaking 45 landmarks and facilities joining in the stunning light show. The heart of the event is the “Highlight of Yokohama” show, a synchronized light and music spectacle that will captivate audiences with its dynamic beauty. Spanning across Yokohama’s urban waterfront, this five-minute show will unfold multiple times each evening, offering a magical experience for all visitors, no matter when they arrive.

From 5:00 PM to 9:05 PM every day, the illuminated cityscape will dazzle with a harmonious display of light, synchronized perfectly to an enchanting soundtrack. This massive light show will spread across a three-kilometer stretch, weaving through iconic sites like the Osanbashi Pier and Yamashita Park, making it a must-see for anyone visiting Yokohama during the holiday season.

Stunning Venues and Immersive Light Displays

The main venues for yorunoyo 2025 are Osanbashi Pier and Yamashita Park, both of which will host some of the event’s most spectacular displays.

At Osanbashi Pier, one of Japan’s largest outdoor projection mappings will take place. A 25-meter-long whale will swim across the roof of the pier, illuminated in vibrant colors, creating a surreal and mesmerizing visual. The pier’s “Whale’s Back” wooden deck will come alive with undulating light patterns, fully immersing visitors in the breathtaking spectacle. Visitors will also have the chance to take in views of the Yokohama skyline, which is renowned as one of Japan’s New Three Most Spectacular Night Views.

Meanwhile, Yamashita Park will host the Bright Garden — a 250-meter-long interactive digital art installation featuring flower-inspired sculptures. A “Star Flower” monument will bloom with light, surrounded by 18 radiant “Star Tree” sculptures that respond to human movement, creating an immersive and dynamic experience. These interactive installations will allow visitors to become part of the art, making the experience all the more personal and engaging.

A Celebration of Flowers and Light

The theme of flowers runs through this year’s event, symbolizing beauty, life, and nature’s vibrancy. This floral theme is reflected not only in the interactive art installations but also in the light sculptures and displays that will grace the waterfront. Visitors will feel as though they’ve stepped into a glowing garden, where the fusion of light and nature creates a dreamlike atmosphere. This unique blend of technology, art, and nature offers a visual treat for those eager to experience the magic of the season.

With 45 landmarks participating across the city, the event will be a sight to behold. The show stretches over a three-kilometer area, ensuring that visitors will be able to enjoy a wide variety of stunning displays as they explore the city. The combination of light sculptures, projection mapping, and the stunning backdrop of Yokohama’s skyline makes this event one of the most anticipated holiday spectacles in Japan.

    Sustainability at Its Core

In keeping with the spirit of modern innovation, yorunoyo 2025 is designed with sustainability in mind. Over 75% of the electricity powering the event will come from renewable energy, primarily sourced from biodiesel fuel made from recycled cooking oil. To further reduce the environmental impact, any remaining emissions will be offset through a carbon offset program, making the event not only a stunning display but also an environmentally responsible one. This commitment to sustainability ensures that yorunoyo 2025 can be enjoyed by generations to come without compromising the planet’s future.

The event also embraces sustainability through the use of eco-friendly materials for promotional items and novelty products, focusing on decarbonization and resource recycling. This environmentally conscious approach enhances the overall experience, aligning the beauty of the event with a positive impact on the environment.

A Perfect Blend of Night Views and Illumination

Yokohama’s dynamic skyline, along with the vibrant yorunoyo lights, creates a stunning visual contrast that attracts visitors from all over the world. As one of Japan’s New Three Most Spectacular Night Views, Yokohama’s skyline is known for its ever-evolving beauty, making it a prime location for night view tourism. The combination of these breathtaking views and the festive lights transforms the city into a holiday wonderland, offering a unique and unforgettable experience.

Yokohama’s Urban Waterfront Area, which includes Osanbashi Pier and Yamashita Park, will serve as the heart of the yorunoyo 2025 event. These picturesque locations are ideal for exploring the city’s holiday magic while enjoying the light shows and art installations. Whether visitors are traveling from within Japan or from abroad, they will find a truly memorable experience as they enjoy the illuminated streets and festive atmosphere.
