Gavin Newsom is pondering a White House run.
During a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning, taped Thursday in San Jose, Newsom was asked if he has given “serious thought” to running for office after the 2026 midterm elections are over.
“Yeah, I’d be lying otherwise. I’d just be lying. And I’m not — I can’t do that,” Newsom said before adding that the decision is years away, “Fate will determine that.”
The Governor of California’s term ends in January 2027. He is unable to run again due to term limits.
Newsom also spoke about challenges he’s faced in his life, such as dyslexia, and whether it’s surprising to him to see where he is now.
“I have no idea,” he added about whether he will run. “The idea that a guy who got 960 on his SAT, that still struggles to read scripts, that was always in the back of the classroom, the idea that you would even throw that out is, in and of itself, extraordinary. Who the hell knows? I’m looking forward to who presents themselves in 2028 and who meets that moment. That’s the question for the American people.”
In addition to Newsom, Kamala Harris also recently spoke about how she isn’t ruling out another run for the White House. “I am not done,” Harris said to BBC.
However, the former vice-president added that she hasn’t decided whether she’s running for the 2028 presidential campaign. “I have lived my entire career a life of service, and it’s in my bones. And there are many ways to serve,” Harris said. “I’ve never listened to polls.”
