Derek Hough is firing back after Ryan Seacrest accused him of nearly breaking an important Wheel of Fortune set piece.
The Dancing with the Stars alum called the host’s claim that he jumped on the titular wheel “1000% NOT true” after he appeared on a September episode of the CBS game show with fellow DWTS stars Bruno Tonioli and Jenna Johnson Chmerkovsky.
“In the commercial break, (Hough) was jumping on the center of the wheel and having Bruno spin it, much like the top of a cake ornament,” Seacrest told USA Today. “We did say, ‘Please don’t do that. That would break it, and there’s only one of those wheels. If that breaks, we have a real problem.’
Seacrest recalled he “had to sort of say, ‘Stick to the ledge,’” noting of the DWTS pros, “They’re very physical, and that makes for fun.”
After the interview went live, Hough responded this week on social media. “BTW, this is 1000% NOT true,” he wrote on his Instagram Story, according to People.
Hough added, “I would never disrespect a set like that however awesome that would’ve been to be ‘spun around it like a cake ornament’ haha.”
While he insists he didn’t jump on the wheel, Hough did jump on the podium at the end of the episode to celebrate winning $63,350 for Feeding America.
