Emergency services swarmed a UK school this afternoon following a “chemical incident” on site. Firefighters were called to Coleraine Grammar School on Castlerock Road just before 4.15pm. Police and ambulance service also attended the scene in the Northern Ireland’s town, and three people were taken to hospital.
SDLP MLA Cara Hunter commented on the “worrying reports” of the incident, adding her thoughts were with those affected as well as pupils, staff and family. Coleraine Grammar School headmaster Dr David Carruthers said: “There has been a chemical incident at Coleraine Grammar School which resulted in hazardous gases being released in a confined area. No pupils were on site due to the Easter holiday and three members of staff were advised to attend hospital.” The incident was brought under control by emergency crews, he added.
