Overseas audiences answered the call for Blumhouse/Universal’s Black Phone 2 during the third session with a Halloween weekend pushing global across the century mark to $104.7M through Sunday.
Of that, $7.3M came from 78 offshore markets. This brings the offshore running cume to $43.3M (about 10% below the previous movie at the same point in like-for-likes). Top 5 are: Mexico ($9.8M), UK ($4.3M), Brazil ($3M), Australia ($2.3M) and France ($1.7M).
Meanwhile, Warner Bros’ Paul Thomas Anderson critical darling, One Battle After Another, is closing in on $200M globally. After six frames, the Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer is at $190.8M worldwide, adding $5M from 74 offshore markets this session for an overseas cume of $123M.
Tops to date are UK ($15.1M), France ($13M), Germany ($9.5M), China ($6.8M) and Italy ($5.8M).
Overall, it’s Sony/Cruncyroll’s Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc that led overseas this session. After buzzing past $100M global last weekend, the anime has now reached $139M global (including Japan where Toho releases). This frame, 63 offshore Sony/CR markets added $8.4M lifting their cume to $87.4M worldwide ($56.7M international/$30.8M domestic).
Korea has now reached $20.9M with this the No. 5 anime movie ever in the market. The UK is at $2.8M, Germany $2.7M, France $2.6M and Mexico $2.1M.
Paramount’s Colleen Hoover adaptation Regretting You added another $8.2M from 56 overseas markets in the sophomore frame, taking the international box office cume to $23.3M and global to $50.8M.
The offshore drop on the Josh Boone-directed pic was just 30% with notable holds in the UK (-25%), Germany (-14%), Australia (-24%), Netherlands (-16%) and Belgium (+7%).
The film was No. 1 in the UK and Australia this session. The Top 5 markets to date are: UK ($5.1M), Germany ($3.3M), Australia ($2.6M), Mexico ($2.2M) and Brazil ($1.4M).
Italy is still to release, on December 4.
Numbers on the anticipated release of S.S. Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Epic are currently in flux. We are hearing a range of $4.2M-$4.9M globally for the 3-hour and 58-minute blended version of Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) and will update accordingly.
